ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival in Siem Reap

Welcome to Cambodia! You will be picked up and taken to the quiet but centrally located hotel. With a welcome drink in hand we take the necessary information for the next few days together. You spend the rest of the day free. Lying by the pool on a sun lounger, exploring the surroundings of the hotel or perhaps a relaxing massage. Now the holiday really starts!

Day 2: Siem Reap - Angkor - Siem Reap (B/L)

After a nice breakfast and a good night’s sleep, this morning you will head for one of the world’s most famous architectural delights of all time; Angkor Wat. This world heritage site dates from the 12th century and forms a mystical whole of beautiful temples, beautiful relief art and ancient statues. First you visit Angkor Wat itself, the most important of the more than 100 temples that the complex is rich. Time for a delicious refreshing coconut in the shade of the trees so that you can get back to it again! Your next destination is Angkor Thom, where the next highlight is the Bayon temple. The 54 Buddha heads in all sizes make this structure one of the most impressive temples of the complex. Later in the day you will visit the Ta Phrom temple. This is one of the few temples that have been preserved as archaeologists rediscovered it at the beginning of the 21st eew, overgrown by the jungle and clearly recaptured by nature from mankind. He became world famous for the film ‘Tomb Raider’ with Angelina Jolie.

Day 3: Siem Reap - Countryside day tour (B/L)

You can spend a whole day exploring the surroundings of Siem Reap by bike, car and boat as there is certainly more to see than just the temples of Angkor. As you cycle on the first part of the tour, you literally breathe in the smell of the rice fields and are surrounded by beautiful lotus flowers in the ponds. You stop at a local market, traditional houses and a small hidden temple. By car you follow the route to Kampong Kleang. The most authentic village on the large Tongle Sap lake. Today is lunch with a charming local family, an excellent opportunity to get in touch with the local people of this fascinating country. You can relax here in the existing hammocks. After this pleasant delay you continue by boat (depending on the season). You sail through the picturesque village whose houses are on 10 meters high poles. In the dry season this falls more dry and you can walk there. Then you see how high the houses are and you get an idea how big the difference in water level can be here. The way back to Siem Reap is partly on unpaved roads and through small villages. The evening is free to spend. Maybe a visit to pub street, or a round about the Psah Chas market?

Day 4: Siem Reap - Phnom Penh(B)

Today a varied travel day from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. On the way we stop in Skuon, also called spider-city, where you have the chance to taste a fried tarantula if you are open to it. You can also enjoy the beautiful views over the Cambodian countryside. The duration of the ride depends on the condition of the road … Certainly not a boring day!

Day 5: Phnom Penh - City tour(B/L)

Today a very varied program with our Phnom Penh city tour. In the morning you are the first to go to the genocide museum S21 Tuol Sleng by tuk tuk. This former high school was used by the Khmer Rouge and was a very notorious re-education camp and a prison during their regime from 1975 to 1979. After this it is only a short ride to the Royal Palace, a beautiful complex that shows that the Cambodians still today day still beautiful buildings can drop.

After lunch you leave the city and it is about a half hour drive to the lugubrious Choeung Ek, better known as The Killing Fields. Here, thousands of people have been killed and buried in mass graves. In particular, the monument erected in memory of this jet-black page in Cambodian history is, not entirely without controversy, very impressive.

The evening is free to spend. The boulevard by the river is always a good place to sit quietly on the terrace and watch people while enjoying a bite and drink. At the weekend there is an evening market and for those who do not want to go to bed Phnom Penh has a lively nightlife.

Day 6: Oudong Mountain (former Capital City) (B/L)

Breakfast at hotel

AM: You will depart to visit Oudong Mountain, it was called Oudong Meanchey; Oudong means noble or excellent, and Meanchey means victory. From 1618 until 1866 it was home to a succession of kings, deposed from the former capital of Longvek by the invading Thais. Today, Oudong remains a sacred place where the construction of a huge stupa has recently been built to store and conserve the relic of Preah Serei Roek Theat (Ash of the Buddha). On the way to back to Phnom Penh, you will stop at a Silver Smith Village called Kampong Luoung, the place where Cambodian people made animal figures and other utilities. After the models are finished they are painted and sold in Phnom Penh.  Lunch at local restaurant.

PM: Visit National Museum is the museum we gather and keep the statue since Angkorian period. Continue to visit Wat Phnom pagoda a 15th century stupa. Wat Phnom, a small hill crowned by an active wat (pagoda) marks the legend of Phnom Penh City. Shopping at Central Market is one of the largest and busiest markets in Phnom Penh. Located in the heart of the city, the market was built in 1937 by the French.
