Up to the present time, the Covid-19 epidemic situation has been effectively controlled by countries around the world, many countries have reopened international activities, and tourists in European countries are free to move.
In Southeast Asia, most of the countries in this region have well-controlled the disease, countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore have opened up and resumed normal activities. The Lao Government realizes that this is a golden time to reopen border gates, ensuring economic development.
During a meeting on May 7, the Lao Government announced that it would reopen completely at all international border gates, tourists who want to enter Laos only need to get enough vaccines without any further treatment any tests.
Government spokesman and deputy chairman of the Prime Minister’s office Thipphakone Chanthavongsa, told a press conference in Vientiane, Laos that the Government realizes that the number of Covid-19 infections and deaths in this country has decreased to reduce and ensure economic development, the Government has combined with a number of departments and agencies to introduce new entry regulations.
After consulting the public, experts and the National Committee in charge of Covid-19 prevention, control, and control have set out new regulations for entry into Laos, effective from 00:00 on May 9, 2022.
According to the proposal, tourists who want to enter Laos need to have at least 2 doses of the vaccine at least 14 days before entry or a certificate of recovery from Covid – 19. These people and children under 5 years old do not need to be a PCR tested before arrival.
Those who have not been vaccinated must have a PCR test certificate performed within 72 hours and a rapid test upon entry.
After entering Laos, visitors are quickly tested by medical staff, waiting time is no more than 2 hours. If positive, travelers must take prescribed precautions. For guests who have not been vaccinated, they need to be isolated for 7 days even if they have negative results
All international border gates will be open to citizens and foreign visitors. Citizens of countries that have bilateral or unilateral visa-free agreements with Laos can enter Laos without a visa.
Citizens of countries that do not have a visa exemption agreement with Laos can currently apply for a visa at the Lao Embassy or Consulate abroad or through the e-Visa online visa system. Visa on arrival will also be reinstated at some international border gates in Laos. Experts say that it is possible that international tourists will be able to travel to Laos from May 15.

• Be fully vaccinated no less than 14 days prior to arrival can arrive without any testing by air, boat or land.
• Visa: Besides Visa waiver agreement for certain countries, Visitor can apply a visa at a Lao embassy or consulate abroad or via the e-Visa online system. Visa on arrivals will also be reinstated at certain international checkpoints to be defined by 9 May. Visitors can enter Laos by air, water or by land as normal before Covid.
• Show proof of vaccination from 2 dose up.
To Unvaccinated Travellers:
• Must furnish a Rapid Antigen Test no more than 48 hours before departure to Laos. Show proof of negative results from Rapid Antigen Test before departure.
