Currency in Cambodia

Some tips:

1.  If you travel to the countryside, the US dollar is not used by the locals, so don’t expect them to have change for you if you don’t have smaller change.

2. If you wish to exchange money, you should take your money to exchange at banks and money exchangers at the airport or in the city center.  Especially, if you do currency exchanges at banks, they do not charge a transaction fee  so you walk out with the daily exchange rate.

3. ATMs will charge a foreign transaction fee plus an ATM fee depending on who owns the actual ATM. Therefore, you shoul travel with a Debit card that reimburses transaction fees, and with a Credit card as well to pay for large expenses at hotel chains, airline tickets, tour agencies, private transfers or stores in shopping malls.
